This is a neat old rocker. Early to mid 1800's, maybe. Thick, heavy piece measures 40" high (16" to the seat), and 23" wide. What looks like a crack/split in the seat appears to just be where the wood was joined. Actually, this chair shows its age just right, and is perfectly sturdy.
